About Dan
“Who Is Dan McGonagle?” this a page of this blog.
I started doing online business development over 2 1/2 years ago and let me tell you, it has been an uphill battle to finally figure out what really works best for online business development.
The reason I faced this uphill battle is because I didn’t possess some “idiot savant” skill for marketing online that helped me get to where I am today. overnight (such as it is…
)
Trial and error and persistence is pretty much my best attribute that got me through all the pitfalls of building an online business that is exactly what I want it to be.
Like you perhaps, I started out thinking that making money on the internet was super-easy and anyone who didn’t do it was an idiot.
But I realized pretty early on in my online career that this is a business, not a care-free hobby that replaces your income-and-then-some in a matter of days, weeks, months, years etc…
For some people, a successful online business is not in the cards, not in their future, and not even in their potential either…
There aren’t a lot of marketers who will tell you that, but the ones who do are actually telling you the truth because the vast majority of people are meant to be employees and cannot and will not ever shake loose of the employee mindset trap.
The marketer that tells you..
“it might be better if you got another part-time job because internet marketing doesn’t seem like it’s working for you”
is probably someone much like me who realizes that a strong desire to leap forward mentally with personal development and to also dramatically advance your business skill set is necessary for a brand new business to succeed and it’s simply not something many people possess.
In the offline world, a majority of small businesses fail in the first 2-3 years and the numbers are even higher for online businesses.
If you are on a lot of email lists, you will see a lot of marketers telling you that the biggest reason for people failing online is you not having..
1.
a list,
2.
a website,
3.
copywriting skills,
4.
products of your own
5.
etc…
This is simply not true! And it’s bull crap to propagate this particular internet marketing myth…
When marketers tell you that your chances of chasing failure away for good can be bought for XXX number of dollars, they are presenting you with the notion of a need then offering a possible solution.
What good will the greatest copywriting product suite do you if you don’t have a marketing plan or marketing sales funnel in place ready to take advantage of your soon-to-be-developed copywriting skills?
Look, I have my own products and my list grows daily when all my sites are active, and I make money each and every single day…
However, running a successful business can be just as challenging as trying to create one…
Ask any millionaire and they’ll tell you it was fun becoming a millionaire but a lot harder to stay there…
The same holds true for attaining and maintaining a business.
You will need to think about your business growth, expansion, branding, and positioning…
Those are all terms that you don’t see too often in your email inboxes because learning how to think and act like a business person is the number 1 most important thing you need to accomplish in order to become successful with a business and it requires a major mindset shift for many people.
Can this skill be taught?
Possibly, and that’s why this blog is here. I will strive to point out the most important things you need to consider as you build your business online.
If you’re reading this far down then maybe there’s a chance you will fall out of the employee mindset trap… to the point where you think and act like a business person making wise business decisions.
Do not get the idea that making money and having a business are the same thing….
You can make money today right now within 5-8 hours by performing some type of service for others, any day or time of the week.
But that is considered a job.
A job is something that stops paying you when you stop working, A.K.A trading time you can never get back for dollars you may spend quickly.
What you really want is a business.
A business is something that runs on its own while you’re not there. Hopefully, you have, or will have a business that runs and grows on its own without you having to be there each and every second of the day.
As I mentioned above, I have my own products and list and some sort of branding going on through the propagation of the products I create and sell, but I still have to wake up in the morning and make decisions constantly.
* What product do I make next?
* Do I want to keep making products like a serial book-seller?
* Do I want to brand myself as the Adsense, ListBuilding, PLR etc.. guru?
* Do I want to make a boatload of money by working my butt off for 14 hours a day?, or
* Do I want to become more of a lifestyle marketer who might make a little less, but enjoys life more?
* Is each action I take daily regarding my business helping me reach either of the 2 goals mentioned above?
The decisions and questions will not stop until you reach a certain point of clarity within yourself and it will be reflected in your business and the effectiveness of your efforts expended.
I like to write and have been told by other marketers that I give away too much and the long blog posts and pages are putting people to sleep.
I’ve also been told that I spend too much of my time working with my Marketer’s Relief members for what I am charging them.
Now, while that may be true because I am trading time for dollars, it doesn’t bother me.
As a matter of fact, it’s rather selfish of me because I’m the one who gets enjoyment out of helping people and I get paid for it, too.
All my life I found myself doing jobs that were in the service industry…
From paper routes, to shovelling snow, to mowing lawns to doing tech support for companies.
Helping people is obviously what I enjoy doing therefore I can afford to tell the truth as I’ve experienced it regarding Internet Marketing and building an online or home business that pays you for your time expended.
Here is an example of why you need to develop a “business-sense” in order ot achieve success with your business:
Example:
If you had $5,000.00 to invest in developing an online business selling digital products, you could
* hire a gohstwriter to write you the ebook,
* a copywriter to write the sales page,
* a PPC campaign manager to build your list and get sales,
* and even hire someone to write articles and build sites for you, too.
But where would you be at the end of the day?
* What could you do with all of that if you cannot determine where to take your business next?
* What product would you create next and why?
* Are you going to make a non-stop series of digital products and sell them cosntantly?
* If so, to what end?
* Where does this get you?
* Are you charging too much, too little, in the wrong niche, still not having enough focus to do anything right, yet?
Learn to think like a business person and the answers will come rather easily to you.
THAT is the number one most important skill you must develop for longevity and success with your business
Thanks,
Dan
